It is in January and it commemorates the Lord Buddha’s first visit to Sri Lanka. This visit took place in the first year of the Lord Buddha’s Supreme Enlightenment. Every year Buddhist of Sri Lanka commemorates this event by conducting the Duruthu Perahera which starts from Kelaniya. The Duruthu Perahera was first hled in 1927.

Salikedara

Once upon a time, there was a farmer who grew paddy in a field. One day, he saw a parrot eating paddy from his field. Once he had finished eating, the parrot took more paddies in his beak and tried to fly away.
          The famer who saw this asked the parrot, “why are you doing this” You have eaten your share and you are taking away more with you.” The parrot answered, “My parents are very old and weak. They are blind and cannot fly. So I take food for them”.
          “This is a very good deed. From this day, this portion of my field is for them,” said the farmer.

Existentialism

Existentialism
In the Philosophical history, the various Philosophical thoughts arose in various countries of the world; rationalism, empiricism, Aesthetic, Atheist etc. The existentialism arose in the western philosophical complex. This philosophical thought was a newly theory which has inquire the value of human life and the meaning of the life.  The term existentialism derived from the Latin term existence which means “Be arising.” It arises in the world in the middle of ninety century and developed in the 20 century. Soren Kierkegaard was the founder of this philosophy. Former philosophers have divided it into two parts; theistic and atheistic.
Soren Kierkegaard, Karl Jasper, Gabriel Marcels are known as the sexual life with the self-modification. The individual effect always based his own requires. Every moment an individual tries to fulfill his requirement. Sometimes it may be a few effects. Then his mentality will be collapsed as the frustration. Theistic philosopher explains the frustrated position of human beings and pointed out a solution for the mental disorder. The solution is the Ethical life of the second step of the life. On this second step a man can enter to the good behaviors. He can complete various ethical term on this step. Again he can concentrate and build up his collapsed mentality of the first step of the life. The first and second steps are considered as the empiricism part of this philosophy. After, they have pointed out the religious life. This step entirely covered by the concept of god. Such as people can entirely delicate their whole life for the god. That is the final conclusion of a human beings existence. Through this way an individual can gain the next world. The existential philosophical view shows the current existence of the life. But the theistic philosopher has mentioned the next birth. This misguidance was resurrected by the atheistic philosopher. We can identify; Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camu etc.
Here, Jean Paul Sartre was great novelist and poet. He opens up this existentialism Philosophy through novel, poetries, etc. He hardly attacks to the god’s concept in the Theistic part. Jean Paul Sartre explained that the human is not a god’s creation but the god is human’s creatures. A human being has own energy and power but he cannot realize the reality of him. Therefore he can face the frustration and suffering in various moment. Then he creates an invisible god and tends to pray the god. Sartre explains that activation of man can be considered as the primary mental state. Therefore he explains that individual has to develop and understand that reality. Jean Paul Sartre always pointed out the liberation and supremacy of the mankind. He has applied this thought into his novels and poetries. He emphasize that the public liberation of the mankind can be destroyed in the society. Therefore he was a great thinker in the 20 century. In the Second World War, many people were died. They have no any mind of the life and never think their existence of life. Suddenly they saw their relatives who died in front of their eyes. After Second World War, the existentialism philosophy arose in the philosophical complex aiming at the value and existence of the life. First of all, a man should understand the value of the life. If one wants to understand it, he should really understand the cruel and brutality of the death. When ones can understand it his mind completely will fulfill with the craving of the existence. Then he can maintain his life and enjoy his life.

about religions

           Among those which the main and great religions, can’t find the start founder of Hinduism in any books and literatures. And so also no one can know the start founded era. The religion, which is known the start founder and era, exactly, are;
(1) Buddhism,
(2) Christianity and
(3) Islam.
       Those three religions are able to find the start founder and era obviously, cause of describes exactly in their texts, literatures and Bibles. The start discoverer and guider of Buddhism is The Gautama Buddha. The Gautama Buddha is born in the year 623 B.C. He has attained the highest enlightenment in the year 588 B.C. The start founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ. He was born in the year 400 B.C. And he start founded his religion in the year 27 A.D. The start founder of Islam is Mohammad. He was born in the year 571 A.D. And start founded his religion in the year 610 A.D.
              Therefore, amongst these three Great Religions of world which know the start founder and era exactly, Buddhism is the emerged religion so earlier. Christianity is emerges in 623 years after emerging Buddhism. Islam is the religion which emerges 1194 years later after emerging Buddhism and 571 years later after emerging Christianity. Islam is the last emerging religion among the world Great Religion.
               Taking Refuge To the Gods.
These three religions, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam are the World Great religions which believe and take refuge to the Gods. Although their taking refuge to the Gods are the same, the Gods and the various creator are a little different. The God is has difference of name according to religions. Hindu people called their God Ishwar, Christian people give the name their God Jehovah, and Muslim people denominate their God Allah. Other Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam except Buddhism are the religions of accepted the Gods.

Religions.

                                   Religions
      In this chapter, I think it should be described a modicum about the basic principles of the main religions. The reason it should be described is the men and children, the Buddhists and others to observe each religion by comparing and by developing consideration knowledge, and to criticize and discriminate truth and false, since childhood.
     In the academic study of religion as a phenomenon in history the term ‘religion’ can be considered in its different aspects: as an inner experience, as theology, or intellectual formulation of doctrine, as a basis or source of ethics and as an element in culture.
       Different scholars have given different views and opinions of its nature and meaning. According to Aldous Huxley, religion is, among other things, a system of education, by means of which human beings may train themselves, first to make desirable changes in their own personalities and in society, and second, to heighten consciousness and so establish more adequate religions between themselves and the universe of which they are parts.
   Modern India philosophers like Dr. Radhakrishnan, have expounded the theme that religion is not a set of doctrines but that it is experience. And religious experience is based on the realization of the ‘presence of the divine in man. ‘H.G. Wells says ‘religion is the central part of our education that determines our moral conduct’. The German philosopher, Kant, stated that ‘religion is the recognition of our moral principles as laws that must not be transgressed.’
      The Buddha’s message as a religious way of life: “Keeping away from all evil deeds, cultivation of life by doing good deeds and purification of mind from mental impurities.” For our purposes, religion may be defined in a very broad sense as a body of moral and philosophical teachings and the acceptance with confidence of such teachings.
     In this present world, men can be able to chooses as one’s wish and take refuges religion what is one appreciates freely. Regarding about it, men are taking refuge various religion, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Jainism and so on. However, there are just four religions, which the great power and many million people are taking refuge. They are;
       (1) Hinduism,
       (2) Buddhism,
       (3) Christianity and
       (4) Islam.
I will mentioned it more and later. Be patient me.
May all of you be happy and peaceful in your mind and body!

The Meaning of Bodhisatta

    The Meaning of Bodhisatta
   One who aspires to attain Samma Samboddhihood, the perfectly self-enlightened one is called a Bodhisatta. Bodhisatta is PaLi word. The word itself is derived from Bodhi   and Satta. Bodhi is maggañana, the fourfold insight knowledge of the path with   accompaniment of omniscience Sabbannutañana). Satta is living beings. Therefore, one   who  aspires to attain Bodhi is called Bodhisatta. These are three kinds of Bodhisatta  known  as Samma Sambodhi, Paccekabodhi and Savakabodhi. Sammasambodhi is the one who had an enlightenment consisting of the fourfold insight-knowledge of the path, understanding the four noble Truths by his own intellect.

   Furthermore, he could make others realize the things mentioned above and the way to
Nibbana. Paccekabodhi is the one who had enlightenment consisting of the Fourfold Insight knowledge of the path, realizing the Four Noble Truths without being taught. Savakabodhi is the one who serves others but his capacity for the save of others is limited. He practiced the teaching of the Buddha and finally attained Nibbana.

Taking the Truth Refuge

Taking the Truth Refuge!
    In this world, every religion has its own concept of what is regarded to be the goal of spiritual life. For some religions, eternal life in heaven or paradise with the Lord is the final goal. For some the ultimate aim in life is the union of universal consciousness, because it is believed that life is a unit of consciousness and it must return to the same original consciousness. Some religions believe that the ending of suffering or repeated birth and death is the final goal. For others, even heavenly bliss or union with Brahma (creator) is secondary to the uncertainty of existence, no matter, whatever form it takes. And there are even some who believe that the present life itself is more than enough to experience the aim of life.
   To attain the desired goal, every religion offers a method. Some religions ask their followers to surrender to God or depend on God for everything. Others call for stringent asceticism as the means of purging oneself of all evil through self mortification. Some others recommend the performance of animal sacrifices. And many kinds of rises and rituals as well as the recital of mantras for their purification to gain the final goal. There is yet another which upholds diverse methods and devotions, intellectual realization of truth, and concentration of the mind through meditation.
      Each religion has a different concept of punishment for evil deeds. According to some religions, man is doomed forever by God for his transgressions in this one life. Some others say that action and reaction (cause and effect) operate due to natural laws and the effect of a deed will only be experienced for a certain period. Some religions maintain that this life is only one of so many, and a person will always have a chance to reform himself in stages until he finally evolves to attain the goal of Supreme Bliss.
    Given such a wide variety of approaches, interpretations and goals of different religions adopted by mankind, it is useful for people not to hold dogmatic views about their religion but to be open to and tolerate of other religious views.
   The Buddha said: ‘one must not accept my teachings from reverence, but first try them as gold is tried by fire.’ The lord (Buddha) said, concerning with taking refuge to the real truth;
         Yoca buddhanca dhammanca.
         samghanca saranam gato.
         cattari ariyasaccani.
         sammappannaya passati.
         dukkhan dukkhasamuppadam.
         Dukkhassa ca atikkamam.
         ariyam athangammaggam.
         dukkhupa samagaminam: (3)1
   “One who takes refuge in the Buddha, the Dhamma and Samgha, sees with Magga• insight the Four Noble Truths, viz, dukkha, the Cause of Dukkha, the Cessation of Dukkha, and the Noble Path of Eight Constituents which leads to the Cessation of Dukkha.” In fact, taking refuge to the Three Refuges trusty is free from gangers and gets the benefits of both present life and future life. And then, the gods, king of the Devas, the persons with super natural powers, the alchemist who possesses super natural powers will look after, help and protect the persons who take refuge to the Three Gems, cause of they also take refuge to the Three Gems respectively.
  The king of the Devas, frightened extensively, when he realizes he is going to pass away, and he approach to the Buddha, and listen to the discourses of the Buddha, and then, when he is listening to the discourse by the Buddha, pass away, and he was born back in the celestial world as a the king of the Devas immediately.
    Therefore, who make to become a king of the Devas? The answer “The Buddha” is. So, don’t take refuge the king of the Devas beyond the Buddha. Especially, it will be ruined, if you meet with the foolish king of the Devas. I want to tell, here, a story of about a trader’s family. There is a house of two traders’ wife and husband in a village. They have a beautiful and clever daughter. Their daughter died at sixteen years. Then, her mother was very sorrowful cause of her daughter died. After that, mother goes to the cemetery bringing snacks and put on her daughter’s cave, and weeps loudly. In that cemetery, an opium smoker used to smoke opium. He needs some money to buy opium. He gets an idea when he saw crying mother. Therefore, he buy the king of coarse paper made from paper mulberry pulp in Main Kain and he make a Sakka’s cloth, and stick tinsel on the cloth. In the next day, the opium eater goes to the cemetery early, and wears the Sakka’s cloth. After that, he climbs up banyan tree, near the cave of lady daughter. In arrive time, the mother cries at her daughter’s cave, bringing flowers and foods. The opium eater, “Shun Shun” shakes the branches of banyan tree. The mother, “Oh the king of the Devas, where are you from?” asks looking up he head.

Taking Refuge to the Imposter!

Taking Refuge to the Imposter
The Buddha made discourse on taking refuge to the imposter and the truth
refuge, analytically, after becoming Buddha.
The Buddha expounded in the text of the paLi canon of Dhammapada;
        Netamkho saranam khemam.
       Netam sarana muttamam.
      Netam sarana mAgamma.
       Sabbadukkha muccati. (2) 3
“Such a refuge is not a safe refuge, not the best refuge. One is not liberated from all evil consequences of existence (dukkha) for having come to such a refuge.” According to above the Buddha’s speech, it is very important not to rely on,
not to worship to the Refuge what is can not give the peace of all suffering. At the present time, the most Buddhists thought and take refuge to the persons, such as the gods, the king of the Devas, the persons with supernatural powers.
   It should not cover the Buddha’s statues and images with the bananas of godsand offertory consisting of hands of bananas and coconut. It should be make therespect and sharing universal love to the persons, who belief one selves, after remembering and missing them, cause of meritorious deeds or good actions. But, it will be happen a danger, if pay respect and refuge the gods, king of the Devas, the person with super natural powers (Vijja), the alchemist who possesses super natural powers, SurassatI, Boetaw and so on, together with the three refuges.
  The Buddha said taking refuge to those persons is not the truth refuge, as is not the refuge what is can not give a peace from all troubles. We can not liberate from the suffering from the round of rebirth of the cycle of death and birth (SaMsarA)∗ by taking refuge to those persons. For the Buddhists or man, taking refuge to those persons can not get benefits on the present life and future life. It causes us the suffering in the present life, and will doom to a state of downfall in future life.
     In the present time, the most Buddhists used to take refuge to those persons. It is not good for the Buddhists who are take refuge to them, because it is not the truth and noble refuge. So, men should take refuge to the truth and noble to get benefits in their daily live.
